Your SPOTLIGHT on Gregg Toland in the May/June issue was very interesting. Even though I've
seen Citizen Kane several times, I didn't know much about the artist who was responsible for all
those creative, cinematic compositions.

While Artists Are Always Right is always informative, I especially enjoyed the SPOTLIGHT in the
May/June issue. As a fan of classic films, I'm always looking for interesting facts about movies.
The story about Toland and Welles cutting the hole in the studio floor in order to get the low angle
shot is just such an example. Thank you.

I wanted to write again to say how much Artists Are Always Right continues to impress me!
So much valuable "enlightenment." I eagerly look forward to each issue!

Even though they lived in different times and used different technology to create their art, Gregg
Toland and Vincent van Gogh (featured in the two recent SPOTLIGHT features) have two things
in common. Both were very talented visual artists...and both departed this world too soon.
Thankfully, we still have their creative accomplishments to enjoy.

I was looking again at the January/February SPOTLIGHT and your beautiful photograph of the

I never realized just how many of my favorite films were photographed by the same man...Gregg
Toland. It is unfortunate that his career was cut so short. What a talented artist!

The Grapes of Wrath and Citizen Kane...but I didn't know much about the cinematographer.

interesting and better than many other art journals, including ones that charge subscription
fees.
